They didnt. Although the anti-landing people will give a 5 second statement why we couldnt have gone, a 5 minute explanation will completely dispel any disbelief.

Example: The astronauts couldnt survive the radiation belts around the earth, the radiation is too strong. The answer: True, they are strong, but the apollo ships only took a few hours to pass throught the belts, amounting to a radiation dose equivalent to several xrays. They didnt get a long enough dose to kill them.

Another example: The flag blew on the moon, since there is no atmosphere, it shouldnt blow. Answer: since there is no atmostphere to absorb the vibrations of the flag as the astronauts planted the pole, the flag would continue to vibrate (blow) until the ground (through the pole) absorbed all the vibrations, which takes a while.

Final example: The picture looked doctored, there are no crosshairs in certain areas of the pictures. Since the moon has only one light source (the sun), the contrast is extreme. Since photos (then) rely on exposure to take a picture, the extreme exposure from the sun would cause the film to "bleed" out the surrounding parts of the picture that are small, such as the crosshairs.

Other examples: There are no stars in the sky. The astronauts always landed during the lunar day, when the sun was up. As on earth, the sun is so bright, it downs out the stars during the day. During a solar eclipse, the stars briefly come out again. The sun on the moon was too bright to let the stars shrine, the same as on earth. Since the moon has no atmosphere, the sky is black, unlike the earth where the atmosphere reflects the light, causing blue to scatter, making our sky blue.

Trump card: Here is the kicker, the ultimate proof. The Soviet Union (our Cold War nemises) had to have had every telescope and sattelitte pointed at the apollo missions for spying and watching. Their telescopes were strong enough to watch a detailed analysis of the flights. If we hadnt had gone, do you really think that they would have stayed quiet instead of embarrissing the US on the front page of every newspaper on the planet with their evidence of a hoax?

There was no hoax, the conclusive evidence is in in the politics of the world at the time.

They didn't fake it!! Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, as well as the next two Apollo missions, left retroreflectors, or mirrors, on the surface that anyone with the correct laser and telescope system could see the reflected light. Also, every hoax accusation has been scientifically explained.

Because they knew that if they actually went there, some idiots would insist they had faked it. So they decided to save themselves a lot of money and do just that.

Well it hasn't been proved that the USA really did fake it. But if so I would assume it's because Russia was in competition with the US to be the first to accomplish the landing. So the US didn't want to lose to Russia so they faked it to pretend they did it first.
