I was just wondering if there is anyone who is going through collaboration as a means of settling your divorce? I chose that route and it has been nothing but a joke and a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, I should have took my husband straight to court, cut the bs of collaboration. By the way, lawyers are pieces of dog sh*t!!! They are lazy people who make waaaaaayyyy to much money for what they do!!! Or should I say, what they DON'T do!!!

Thanks for that=) I tried sitting down with him and discussing things like grown adults but he would get up and leave when I didn't agree with everything he said. It was like it was his way or the highway, he actually thought I should walk from our house and not see a red cent from it, while he lives in it with his mistress!!!

Several years ago I read a story in a magazine about a couple who wished to divorce and settle amicably. (I guess that's what you are calling collaboration.) When they went to court, they were told they could not get a divorce without a lawyer--just a formality, in their case. They had agreed on all the terms of the divorce and there was no hostility between them.

Once the lawyers got involved, they immediately worked the couple into an adversarial relationship. What should have been a fifteen minute deal over a table ended up more than two years in court. By the time it was over, the two hated each other and lost between them, something like 30 percent of their total assets to the lawyers.

here is a novel idea. Both of your come to a civil agreement, then have one lawyer draw up the paperwork as "petition for Divorce, Uncontested" Meaning you both agree how property, bills and parenting time is going to be split up. This way you two slpit the cost of one lawyer. I bet a few dinners and a list of things with fix it all.

btw, in some states and counties you can file your own paperwork using instructions, you both can do it together.

if u can afford a lawyer skip the dumb crap and go to court. if he isnt cooperating dont waste your time.

EDITED AFTER YOUR ADDED COMMENT: '
my ex hubby did the same crap he thought evne though he made 3X what i made, i shoudl be stuck with ALL the debt and give him all the marital property. he was singing a different tune when i got a lawyer and it only cost me $4,000 on my credit card but i had him paying $55,000 of the debt while i got stuck with $20,000 and i got almost all the household goods. he is thinking he can bully you into getting nothing, negotiations with him are a moot point. get yourself the lawer and you will be a lot happier. by the way im a janitor i dont make a lot but the money to the credit card was a very good investment. dont get screwed woman!
