It really depends on how the child acts around me I mean I don't even have kids and from what I've seen I don't want kids and I'm only 14! But anyways if the child is treating me as if I'm a child and by that they can do anything to me or say anything to me then well I don't play that...If the person is older than the child then that child needs to be looking up to that someone not boss around that model. Basically right now I'm talking about kids that act as if they are the parents another word for that is SPOILED! In my family there is no such word! There would be no crying or whining or begging that would only go down with the father but not the mother cause mothers do not mess around with that...If that kind of stuff happened in my house with my family then that child would have been getting spanked or at least taught to use their manners. Those days of being a little baby are gone...wayyyyyyyy gone! So spanking to me isn't really what I would do to a child if they misbehaved or treated me or someone else as a toy, all I'd do is give the child a little attitude you know just to show who's the boss in the house....

My wife and I have gone back and forth about it and have found that it is not very effective and there are better ways to modify behavior and teach children between right and wrong. I am not saying that I do not believe in spanking, however, it was not effective for our children and therefore it just really seemed more like abuse than appropriate discipline.

If they do something really wrong that you can't comprimise or talk through it then yeah. But don't ever spank with your hand cuz you can put too much force. I use a fly swater. Just barely flick it..it'll sting for a minute but i won't bruise and it definatley doesn't hurt them. Just a scare.

Little swats on the butt if they don't listen to countless warnings but never the hard over the knee kind like I had as a child..... My ex husband has spanked our children hard though.....

I hate to do it but I've come to realize that sometimes it's just plain necessary. I have just recently started doing it to my kids, ages 5 and 3, because it got to the point that they plain didn't respect me anymore. I grounded them, stood them in the corner and stuff like that but after a while, to them it was like, "well I'll do this and then spend a few minutes in the corner and I'll be alright" so I started spanking them and it works much better. But please do be very aware of how hard you are spanking your children, you don't have to beat them, bruises are unnecessary in any case, just a tap on the behind hard enough to get their attention will do. They'll thank you later for it.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. It's Biblical. The irony is that the society we live in today is so intolerant of children, especially in public. If they don't act like adults we get icy stares or even rude comments. Then, if we dare punish them for their behavior we get the "I can't believe she's spanking her child! Let's call DFCS!" looks. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

I am opposed to it. If you slapped an adult, you could be tried for assault. So why is it okay to strike a child? Besides, it teaches that violence is acceptable, when a child should instead learn about self control and consequences.

And if spanking a child is acceptable, is slapping your wife around also okay? Not hard - just once, across the face, to let her know that you mean business when she just won't listen to you?

I don't believe in child abuse but if they have done something a repeated amount of times and I've tried everything else then I believe in a good spanking. It sure as hell beats visiting them in jail after wards!

I do if they are REALLY bad! Mostly we use time out but sometimes that doesn't work. We rarely spank, only if it's REALLY necessary.
