Start dusting from the top to the bottom. Put the cluttering things away into a closet or take the unwanted/unneeded items to a local Salvation Army store. Last thing to do is to sweep the floor or vacuum the carpet. Have fun! You will feel much more comfortable in an uncluttered clean room.

check out FlyLady's website. She has lots of great tips for cleaning. You can adapt these to fit your needs for your room. Pay special attention to the De-Cluttering, and Detailed Cleaning Lists. Then check out Riley's Challenge. These challenges are geared toward a child's bedroom (not to assume you are a child, but since you are asking for just your room, and not your house, I'm lead to believe you are a youngster in the house)
Don't stress about doing a "good" job, just do a job that makes YOU happy. That's all cleaning is about, really.

Start by cleaning the area you notice the most when you first walk in the room. You can put things into different piles as you go to make it easier to put things away. If you havent worn or used something in the last 12 months, ask yourself why your keeping it. If its not a good reason- throw it out. You wont miss it and it'll only create more mess for you later. Once you have everything in piles, simply put them in their place, then your all done! Easy!

Take everything except the bed, dresser and other big furniture out. It's easy to clean that way. get rid of or find someplace else to put everything you haven't used in six months. Clean top to bottom and put stuff back neatly.
