well maybe they bought something and then when they tried it on again, they decided that maybe it didn't look as cute as it did online or in the store....so they get other people's opinions to see if they should return the stuff or keep it.
also, they migth be buying something that is really different for them....for example if someone usually wears subtle flats and they buy some leopard pumps....they want other people's opinion to build their confidence since they aren't used to wearing such noticable things
and, of course, there are those people who are just dieing of boredom staring at the wall...and they feel all gloomy because there's nothing to be happy about...so they pick something they think is cute and see if other people will compliment them...cuz then they would feel a lot better knowing that people really like their new shoes...even though they already kno that they're adorableâ¥
well, idk....but those are some ideas =]

Because if some people didn't get peoples' approval, which is what some people desperatly need; there would be no reason to buy the shoes in the first place.
Or you just need or want some shoes, but you don't know if they look ok on you, but you still like them.

Its not so much that people need, Most people just want. As
a culture we have become spoiled. We, in most cases: do
not know what it means to need. If we place ourselves in the
shoes of others some of which have no idea of where their
next meal is going to come from, or where they will lay their
head to sleep, want vs. need becomes very clear. I want a
new pair of shoes or a new car. Do I really "need" those
things?

that's the general idea on apparel. people want to make good impressions. it is in the human nature to brag and be full of ourselves so that's why we take other opinions so seriously. we usually question people that belong to a certain category or group that we would like to impress, for example we don't feel like asking our parent's opinion but we are very interested in that of the opposite sex!

We do think for ourselves - but sometimes we miss out on details.
For example: I pick out a dress that I like, ask a friend about it and she politely tells me that the dress makes my breasts look like pineapples- I look in the mirror and realize this fault for the 1rst time.
Second opinions make ppl realize certain details.

because the reason they buy it is to impress other people and if they get ugly ones nobody else likes, they're defeating the purpose

Maybe then thought they value the other's opinion but began to think for themselves so they changed their minds. though, maybe if you'd punctuate the question a bit more, we could help you better.

I agree, but I do that sometimes too. I only do that with a friend though. For me, it's just nice to know wat they think to see if I should return it or not. But wat I don't get is wen people post pictures of clothes and stuff online or ask strangers for outfits. I mean come on, are you really that incapable of dressing yourself!?
