Ok, so I was really stupid and ran the battery down till the ipod shut itself off completely. Now I have it plugged into the computer and it's not doing anything...it says "Very Low Battery. Please Wait." on the screen. Please bear with me...I've never done this before. Will it come back to life? And will there be any damage from the battery being run down all the way?
I'm very upset this happened...the fully charged battery only lasted about 9 hours when the Apple site promised 14! Any comments on this?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Ps- Don't know if this helps with anything, but I only got this thing a month ago...I did read somewhere that after a few good charges the battery has more capacity...True or False?
Sorry if I seem a little paranoid but I'm not very happy about this!

Don't worry yourself, it is perfectly fine to allow your iPod to die, it will shortly relaunch itself once it has found a source of power, Just connect it to your computer for awhile.

The Lithium-Based batteries in the iPod slowly drain themselves even when not in use, this is completely normal so don’t be alarmed. Do note however, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally try to go through at least one charge cycle per month.

Yes, the battery will hold a better charge after a few uses, to a certain extent.

Battery Saving Tips:

1. Turn the clicker off.
2. Turn the sound check off.
3. Don't have the equalizer set.
4. Put the iPod on hold when you’re not using it.
5. Don't fast forward songs or video very often.
6. Don't use too many songs that are 9mb file size or higher.
7. Turn the brightness all the way down; your eyes will eventually adjust.
8. Don't select your songs too often, because since your iPod's hard drive is always in motion it burns more battery. (Just let it play)
9. Don't charge the iPod in its case, because it causes the heat to build up inside the case and thus, contributes to burning down the battery.
10. It’s important to keep the electrons inside the battery moving occasionally, so try to go through at least one charge cycle per month to extend your battery life.

Also there are better iPod batteries out there that can hold more charge, but you won't need to change your battery right away, you might want to look into those, but I would ask someone who knows what they are doing to install them.

I'd try turning it off by holding down the play/pause button then plug it in for a few days and see if that helps.
hope I helped!!
Your iPod is gonna be just fine so I wouldn't worry, i mean your getting a lot of advice and at least one will probably work so don't worry!!

I think that letting it die all the way is a good thing. Then charging it all the way. I think it makes the battery last longer. Same concept as a cell phone.

Just about every friend i have with an ipod have let theirs power all the way down. They just always recharge them and they work perfectly just leave your ipod charging till it finally charges all the way. If this doesn't work you might need to contact apple customer service.

of course the amount of time you have until your battery dies is gonna get shortened when you have your ipod for a while and you use it alot...thats just how ipods are..and you might need to buy a new ipod...theres nothing you can do...but you can try to press the play/pause button and the menu button...but it only works for when your ipod is froze
