It could mean that you have preeclampsia. Have you had some high blood pressures or rapid weight gain or swelling of hands? I had preeclampsia 2 Xs. My 1rst I was 32 weeks and they delivered my daughter after 3 days( I also was gestational diabetic and had low amniotic fluid) the baby was 3 lbs 2 oz/ The second time I was hospitalized at 23 weeks and they told me I would be there until I deliveredThis was the 1rst of May and I was due on August 19. I made it until the end of May and the protein levels got so high that it was making me go into kidney failure. So my 2nd daughter was 27 weeks and weighed 2lbs 3 oz. The protein and high blood pressures cleared up both times after delivery. They found protein in my urine and then they had me do a 24 hour specimen to determine an average on the protein. They didnt do the blood test checking one until I was hospitalized. Most likely everything will be fine for you. Its not anything you are doing its just your bodies reaction to the strain of pregnancy. Good luck. Hope what happened to me doesnt scare you each pregnancy and each person is different.

Protein in your urine is not that big of a deal unless you also have high blood pressure. If that's the case then you'll be diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and most likely they'll enduce you just to be safe and make sure no harm is done to you or your child. As long as you don't have high blood pressure they'll most likely just keep an eye on the protein levels through the rest of your pregnancy but nothing else.

I was diagnosed with preeclampsia when I was 25 weeks pregnant, spent 2 days in the hospital to collect urine and observation, no protein in my urine. When I was 32 weeks pregnant I went into the ER with pain in my upper abdomen, and I was vommiting. I had protein in my urine and they drew blood. I had elevated liver enzymes and low blood platelets, I was airlifted to a bigger hospital within a half hour and had my son 2 months early and he was growth restricted due to the preeclampsia, high blood pressure and HELLP syndrome, he only weigh 2lbs 13 oz. Almost a year old now and is doing wonderful.
This is my personal experience but if you aren't getting your blood test results back right away I assume they must not be too concerned about it. Have you been having issues with High blood pressure? If so I would maybe consult a different doctor. Good Luck and I hope everything turns out alright!

Protein in the urine could be a sign of developing pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia will only be diagnosed if you also have high blood pressure (over 140/90 usually). It is likely that your doctor will keep more of an eye on you now to check your BP until they have an indication from the blood tests. They may also get you to do a 24hour urine collection.

Preeclampsia, or toxemia, typically develops after the 20th week of pregnancy and is characterized by high blood pressure, edema and protein in the urine.
I had toxemia but I wouldn't worry if I were you, if the doctor didn't say anything about ur blood pressure being high she is probably just doing this as a precausion. If you had toxemia you may notice swelling, I gained 10 lbs in one week. (FUN HUH?) Congrats and good luck with the rest of ur pregnancy

It's known as albuminurea, however I'm not really sure what impact it has on pregnancy. What concerns me is that your doctor did not explain it to you, or perhaps you neglected to ask. I would make it a point to find out exactly what the albumin or protein in the urine means, and how it affects you and your unborn child. Even if you have to grab the doctors by the shirt tail, you're entitled to know what's going on with your body and your baby, and they have a responsibility to explain it to you in layman's terms.

I also had some protein in my urine later in my pregnancy. The doctor said it's normal to have some, it's not a problem unless it's combined with other symptoms, as others have said.
