I assume you mean the UN does not have backbone.
If you want some idea of the efficacy of the UN, watch any one of a number of good movies about the genocide in Uganda and how the UN basically ordered their on-the-ground troops not to get involved and men, women, and children were slaughtered.
Every nation--including our own--knows that the UN's will and resolutions can be ignored without fear of any serious sanction.

Simpletons have selective memories, it seems. Many countries did not conform to UN resolutions, not only Iraq. The UN is based on the idea that we want peace and that because of that our governments want peace and will work together in the UN. But not all governments want peace when they think they can get something - oil e.g. - by force instead of honest dealing.

They THOUGHT they were above the actions of the UN. Saddam probably thought the UN was just bluffing, as usual. As it turns out he was right. If it hadn't been for us and our allies they would be on resolution #409 regarding Iraq with no end in sight, meanwhile he would still be operating his torture chambers and filling up more mass graves.

well the UN just couldn't find those WMDs bush knew were there. after house boy powell took that picture of a truck by a warehouse up to the UN the world failed to act. bush said if we don't attack in 10 minutes the world will disappear in a mushroom cloud. saddam was saying let the UN check it out. the UN was willing. bush couldn't wait. it was like he didn't want to know the truth. it was like he had his own agenda.
well saddam didn't get to pump in price lowering oil onto the market and you're paying $3.50/gal. for gas and iraq is trashed, and 3000 americca kids are dead and bush says al-qaida has never been stonger.
just think iit was the support of patriots like you that made it all posible

The truth is that the US moved in without the approval of the UN. Who knows what would have happened if Bush hadn't invaded an innocent country all alone?

Bush and his neocon chickenhawks ignored the U.N. in planning their war on Iraq. The U.N. had weapons inspectors who had not found any Weapons of Mass Destruction after years of effort. The U.S. bypassed the U.N. in its march to war, saying "we'll go it alone."
The U.S. is suffering the consequences of neocon chickenhawks being so eager to go to war. Had the liberals had more guts, they would have pointed out the fallacies in the U.S. government's case for war. That would have at leasted allowed liberals to say, "I told you so."
That doesn't obscure the fact, however, that it was neocons who got the U.S. in its present mess in the first place.
