Illegals and HIV
Posted by: Mike Gallagher at 6:53 AM
The hits just keep coming when it comes to the thorny issue of illegal immigrants. Now comes a report that illegals are contracting HIV when they come to the United States, and are spreading the disease when they return to Mexico.
The report, lovingly chronicled in the New York Times, suggests that an "expanding AIDS crisis among the migrants goes virtually unnoticed on both sides of the border", especially in Mexico where AIDS is still shrouded by stigma.
I say lovingly because the way Times writer Marc Lacey explains the reason many illegals are contracting the AIDS virus is stunning. He writes, "For many migrants, being displaced from their homes and families is a lonely experience..."
Being displaced??? The New York Times is so desperate to paint illegal immigrants in a sympathetic light, they infer that illegals were kidnapped and forced at gunpoint to sneak across the border and take our jobs.

They also fail to mention how many illegals are "sex workers" or are running illegal drugs back and forth across the border, ( or both ) both of which lead to a high rate of AIDS.

A real problem in Mexico is how many women and children are being deserted when the men come here looking for work, send money home for a couple of months and then decide to stay here while abandonning their families back there. A lot of the immigrants are young men who come here to work and then decide to play around.

As noted, I can't really say as I didn't read the original but, except for two, everyone has good points above ('where do the stats come from?' is always a good question)

Note to bd... Don't know where you live but illegals are hanging rock [not taping] in Las Vegas for well over 25 cents per square foot which means $8 per sheet so either the crew is lazy [not] or [realistically] a team of two is making $50 PER HOUR. (another job Americans don't want???)

Note to Frank, Sage and others - get precision. Facts, pictures, words, can **IMPLY** but only SENTIENT BEINGS can **INFER**.

Note to Inzaratha - thank you for pointing out the *negative side* of temporary workers; there are some very real strains on the home society as well as the host society.
In parts of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the migration of young men to Arab countries produces what is know as 'Gulf Widows" who have to raise kids alone, work while waiting for money, and suffer emotional problems. BTW - the young men *leave* their host country EXACTLY on time when their visas expire OR THEY GO TO JAIL.

Note to Gary and alfie - watch it ... my favorite ink cartoon was a group of pipe smoking elites discussing which Sunday paper was best and they settled on the NY Times. Then the last frame shows the guy holding the NYT and saying something like "yep, when it comes to puppy house training, the very best paper is the Sunday New York Times." lmao^2

Hmm let's see maybe because the people in charge have ZERO clue!!! Telling a teenage not to have sex is like telling a 2 year old not to put something in their mouth!!! They will continue to have sex and there is nothing that anyone can do to stop it!!! So what needs to be done is educated them on protecting themselves but this will not fly because the dumb asses in charge will say that would be condoning sex. LOL My question is how do these idiots get in these positions? I laugh all the time because they really don't know what is going on and then they actually think they can fix it! It is a joke! There are a lot of other issues that need to be worked on along with this but as long as the rocket scientist are in control there will never be any progress!

The NY Times does not seem to blame anyone for anything in this article. The article addresses the issue that Mexicans are heading home having contracted HIV. This is not blaming America - it is stating a fact and looking at what needs to be done about it.
The article in no way infers that illegals are kidnapped - this is obviously invented by Mr Gallagher whom you have simply cut and paste rather than producing any rational thought of your own. It again poses the simple fact that many illegal immigrants are out of contact with family and friends. It does not suggest anyone else forced this upon them.
Then again - I know this because I actually read the article - not just someone else's bizzarely inaccurate review of it.

Well, I guess that illegal aliens do not consort with the cream of society when they enter our country and that's why they contract AIDS. I'm sure that, in the same spirit of liberal foolishness that erected the water fountains so illegal aliens do not get dehydrated as they are invading our country illegally, the NY Times will suggest that the taxpayers fund a free AIDS testing facility and dating service for illegal aliens.

The new York times is in the same class as Pravda and Al Jeezera!!! It is the epitome of left wing reporting!! Their next expose will be that it was started by a gang of cons kidnapping and then injecting scores of illegals while they were passed out on a overdose of tequila..Why couldn't the hi jackers of 9-11 missed the towers and hit the Times building!!

When you consider how rampant unclean needle use is in border areas and the spread from prostitution, it's not inaccurate. I suggest researching it first rather than eating up what some obviously right-wing media source is selling as spin.

It's a serious problem as methamphetamines and heroine are increasing in use among the poor and homeless in areas along the border, on both sides. The NY Times does NOT infer that illegals were forced to do anything, stop viewing things with bias and try to see truths objectively, not to what fits your own opinion.

whose jobs are they taking?
are you a fruit picker or a maid???

this is a serious issue, can you drop you agenda for one minute?

this means that the US is having too many HIV/AIDS cases (yes I know even one is too much, but I'm saying this is excessive)
focus less on the illegal V legal issue and more on the health crisis

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building."
-- Ann Coulter, New York Observer article; August 26, 2002

"Of course I regret it. I should have added 'after everyone had left the building except the editors and the reporters.'"
