I feel so unqualified to answer this question, I lived without electricity for about 5 months in 2003 while in iraq.
Geeze, we would do patrols and try not to get shot or blown up. We would do all kinds of army stuff like sit in towers in 140 degree heat, our eyes glued to the ground as far as we could see looking for the bad guys. We would take care of sick or injured soldiers and civilians.
When no one was looking we would take joy rides in blackhawks, drive abrams over wrecked vehicles and compare photos of the above.
When we were not doing that, we would lay sort of in a daze hoping it would cool down to at least 120 so we could sleep a little.
Reading was difficult, the glue in the spine binding melts and the books fall apart. A string would hold it together until you got back to it, rubber bands would not last. String was amazinging difficult to find for some reason. Wire works too.
We'd play cards, sing, have worship services under the stars, look at the stars, watch the mortors walking into our location at the FOBs, before ducking for cover.
Honestly, we had a decent life considering nothing we touched was cooler than 140 degrees, to include drinking water. (time april 03 until early sep 03) In the sunlight everything was a lot hotter than 140 degrees.
A couple of hours of no electricity......what a concept....a country without war or hatred, social strife and religious hatred. Where can I find such a land as that.

Yeah i love it when the power goes out AND its raining, i just love sitting outside and watching the rain. Me and my brother play uno or listen to the radio. Sometimes we light a candle and make smores heehee. Its amazing, what you can do w/ so little. You would think "oh no the power is out! what ever should we do!?" but we just make the best out of a bad (or not so bad) situation. =D

Sounds like fun. Unfortunately, I neither have a significant other nor do I have kids, so my options are limited.
