There are several kinds of hot tubs, the simplest being a 120 volt model that simply plugs in to an outlet. Just be sure it is GFCI protected. Going to a 240 volt system is where you'll have to "permanently" mount it and then you'll need code, permits, etc., but generally use less power. A 120 volt model is viewed as simply a plug-in appliance.

You will need to get a permit before you start. The size of wiring will depend on the size of the unit that you get. You will need to have a disconnect outside that is accessible. You should have no other electrical outlets withing 6 ft of the water, as I recall. You will also have to run a ground rod, assuming that this is going outdoors.

You will also have to have a GFIC breaker installed with the disconnect.

Good luck.

If you are not that familar with wiring 220V circuits then you may want to get a licensed electrician to do the work.

Use the materials called for in the code. And use the methods called for in the code. Don't forget the National code and any local codes. Happy reading. Get a permit and then have it inspected. If it fails inspection, just do it over. Don't get hurt.
