The problem is that when i boot my pc,during startup,it shows that theres 2 operating systems,as if i have,say,win2000 and XP but they are both XP.And its not as if it was installed on a separate partition because i already went that route,no partitions.Whats more, when i boot up my machine and the screen that comes up that gives me the option to choose what OS i want to use,i have to arrow down to the version of XP that works. If not, after 30 seconds it tries to boot into the corrupt XP.I did change the countdown from 30 to 999 seconds but that doesnt help my cause much,it only buys me a little time to arrow down.So i have to sit through the whole startup procedure and basically baby sit so it boots the right way.Thats really annoying, especially for me because i do a lot of downloading and installing and what not that requires reboots.I like to be able to click restart and walk away for 10 or 15 minutes without worrying about my computer trying to boot into a nonexistant version of XP.

ok. if you installed the good XP in the same folder, you cannot uninstall the xp. I suggest to do this:

go to settings / control panel / system / advanced /
there you'll see startup and recovery. and a button that reads settings. click there.
in the new windows at the top you'll see system startup.
another button says, edit

click there and you'll see the two option for the two XP. just select the second (it should be the good one) .
and the aply.

you still see the two options but it will start with the good one.

i hope this information is useful to you.good luck.

if the xp version is still there you will need to do as advised and do a complete re install but this time format the whole drive.

if not you can go start run msconfig and edit the boot ini just delete the entry/ies that you do not require.

Try reformatting your computer from scratch. Stick your windows XP program in the CD ROM then turn off your PC.
Next restart your computer. Your computer will automatically start installing the software but it won't be the step by step version you normally see.

if the bad win xp is on the same drive as the new one, then thats a problem, but if its on the different drive, just format that drive.

the best way is to format the whole drive and reinstall your winxp again.

Did you check under "Control Panel" and then = Add/Remove Programs ?

If the Bad one is listed there, then Remove it from that place.

Hope this helps.
