if i buy a regular macbook, for the $1000 on the apple website, does that come with everything I need?

i.e. microsoft word, etc? can i use my regular Dell printer on my macbook laptop? I've only just bought an ipod, so i'm def not apple-savvy. I guess my real concern is , if I decide to buy the macbook, does my spending end at just buying the computer?

ok so a follow up--- if i have docs saved in my pc microsoft word, and they are saved on a thumb drive, can i open up the document on my apple computer?

If you buy a MacBook, it comes with all the software you need (almost). It comes with iLife, which has iPhoto, iTunes, iDVD, iMovie etc. It includes Safari, a very good web browser. It comes with Garage Band and other software. It only comes with a basic word processor. You would need to get iWorks or Word for it. The basic word processor it comes with will open word and rtf documents as well as appleworks documents. It is wi-fi ready out of the box, it doesn't need an anti-virus program. Apple has the best tech support. Your Dell printer will work. If you are a student, Apple is giving a free iPod Nano with the MacBook and knocks the price down to $999.
The only other software I would get would be free versions of Firefox and flip4mac.

No, it doesn't Microsoft office must be purchased separately, and yes it is pretty much buying the computer, but note that the computer comes installed with apple works which is just like microsoft word but apple version, and it , the macbook comes with all the basics, i.e itunes, ichat, mail, calender, widgets, safari etc.. and as for your printer, friend you can use any USB printer on a macbook

** for your follow up , no you can't open your word documents unless you have word installed, yes you can open them if you have the trial, but friend i'm going to be honest, DON'T GET ONE!! get a windows running laptop, why? because your going to get pissed to the highest level when you find out that almost all programs don't work on macs! and for the one's that do, they are crappy! take for example Internet explorer, it hasn't been updated in years and it sucks, can't even display images!
*windows media player- sucks also!! can't organize music, make playlists, burn cd's etc, only good for watching videos!
*yahoo messenger- god this gets me pissed you can't do anything with it!! only iM send files and that's it! no pc to pc calling , audibles,(the little animations that make sounds) , weather, radio, nothing!! and also to who ever your talking to always gets annoying messege saying you have a different version of yahoo messenger, and also it looks ugly horrible and poorly made!!

* Real One player- sucks too!! you can only watch videos or listen to music but can't organize , burn or make playlists

*Internet browsing- yes it is fair but it also sucks, it doesn't display websites most of the times the way they where meant to be seen for example it could show it totally screwed up mean while a windows user see's it perfectly, and on your myspace layouts, if you make one it will look totally different to windows users, as to you it will look different to too,and also some sites don't even work!!! if you want to always see the messege "sorry this site currently only supports windows running machines" and "You must have Internet explorer 6+ to view this page" which doesn't even exsits for apple! god don;t get one please trust me your better off with, if you want stylish and sexy, a vaio that runs windows, there slim and look way better than the macbooks

hi. unfortunatelt. macbooks include atry version of word.you can use it for about 4 moths, rhen you have to buy the original version.
it comes with only the regular ma cprograms included with the os.

about your printer, as far as i know you can use any printer with the mac os as well as your ipod.

I think it is the firs apple computer you buy,it does not work in the same way than windows, it is a little more confusing and hard to understand. besides, you need to buy the mac version of all of the software for windows.

ms office does not come with it. yes u can use ur dell printer with it. tons of stuf comes wiht it, like ilife.
