Light is a primary necessity for controlling the quality of plants, such as growth rate, carbohydrate level and foliage colour etc. Plants consumes more fertilizers in higher light to maintain good quality, whereas in low light requires less nutrients beacause of reduced total demand.some of the plants which suitable for low light areas are foliage Anthuriums, varieties of Adiantum, Nephrolepis, Pteris, Maranta, Fittonia, Asplenium nidus, Aglaonema modestum, Hedera helix, Philodendron scandens and Monstera deliciosa.

With some of the new relatively inexpensive, energy efficient CFL (compact fluorescent light) plant lights on the market, you can turn a dark corner without a window into a tropical jungle. The color spectrum's now available give a very close match to noon on a sunny day. "Lights of America" sells a 14 watt mini 'Sunlight', I use four of them in my dark basement office to grow an Impatience rescued from the winter. It's getting huge and has been blooming 24/7 for the last two years. They help me with my seasonal depression to boot. RScott
