I am not a fan of the invasion in Iraq, but now it's too late for the blame game. I wish we wouldn't have gone in and created the mess we have to clean up, but now the US has to think of what to do now that we "made the bed we sleep in".

I am all for pulling troops out of Iraq and placing them in Afghanistan where they should be, but can we really pull out the majority of the troops and still effectively defeat the Al-Qaeda outfits in Iraq?

Hell no. We need to finish what we have going on there. I know that a lot of people want our troops to come home, but the moment we do that, the fight will come back here. Then innocent people will die - again...

Soldiers and Marines KNOW what they are doing. They all volunteered to do their jobs and they love serving the Great United States of America!!!

The media needs to start telling America the GOOD things that we are doing over there - building schools and hospitals, teaching kids (of all religions) how to read, write and do math, and making a major difference. Iraqis are thankful we are there!!!

Oh, and in case you are wondering - yes, I AM an American Soldier!
-------------------------------------------------
Note- I find it interesting that those of us in support of our troops overseas have gotten a lot of 'Thumbs down'.

It is too bad - Too many people have forgotten that WE didn't start this war...

Also - I know that people are concerned with the loss of American Lives. But here's a little FACT:
We've been at War for 5 1/2 years. In that time, with ALL of the branches of service involved (Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard) overseas, the amount of casualties are still LOWER than just the ARMY would lose in PEACE to Civilian Car Accidents!
Also- The amount of Casualties in WAR over 5 1/2 years are still barely around the number of innocent lives lost on September 11th, 2001.

What would happen to America if we Did just Give up, pack our bags and come running home???

This is a very shaky subject. With every day my opinion changes. While I want to finish what we started and not appear weak to the muslim world 10 thousand dollars a second is being wasted on the war in Iraq. Not to mention countless lives have been lost, both civilian, and U.S. soldiers. While I want to set a good example for the middle east world, it is hard to tell what that good example is. We want to appear strong, which we aren't doing. We want to appear fair, which we aren't doing. We want to appear as a great, brave, and powerful nation but withdrawing will not do that. I know however that by pulling out troops partially will only result in anarcy and many troop's deaths. However I think that we can pull out shortly before a serious civil war breaks out, and not look so cowardly. But timing something like that is very difficult. How will you know when to pull out. What could look like a great war could really shape up to be a petty argument. I truly believe that although times are hard what we have set in motion will inevitably lead to a brighter better Iraq. One, that one day may be one of America's allies. It is not to difficult to see that Iraq is curently mimicing the history of America, much similar to the way that vietnam did. Now Vietnam is one of our allies. Sadly it seems that the only road to peace is war, war and bloodshed. So at the moment all we can do is wait. Wait, lose money, lose lives, and lose pride.

There are basically two Al-Qaedas. One is "Al-Qaeda in Iraq" and the other is the regular "Al-Qaeda". Regular "Al-Qaeda" is the ones that attacked us on 9/11, they are lead by Osama bin-Laden, and recruit and train in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region. Thier primary goal is to destroy the U.S. by attacking her at home. hense the 9/11 attacks. Now the other Al-Qaeda is called "Al-Qaeda in Iraq" although they share the same enemy and have similar tactacts, their goals are diferent. "Al-Qaeda in Iraq"s goal is to expel the U.S. and her allies form Iraq. and form an Islamic state. "Al-Qaeda in Iraq" "is" or should i say "was" ran by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The two shair inteligence and are allies but are two different groups. Some people either don realize that there are two "Al-Qaeda" or they chose to mislead people to draw support.
The fighting in Iraq right now isn't just "Al-Qaeda in Iraq" its a combination of several different groups. The secertain civil war between the sunni and the shiites, Criminal eliments similiar to the Mob, remains of the old Bath party, and anti U.S. insurgent groups like "Al-Qaeda in Iraq".
Now with that said, I don't have an answer to the Iraq sitution, but i do know this. If we leave the fighting will not stop, and us being there isn't really making anything better. So i think there comes a time when you have to decide if its all worth it, and how long to we keep trying. But with the resurgence of "Al-Qaeda" in Afghanistan you have to wonder what have we been doing these bast six years?

My nephew has served 2 tours in Iraq and has told us that at least 60% of the insurgents his group captured were Sunni and Saudi Arabia born nationals. The ones they could trace to having any kind of Al Qaeda link was about 10%. The remaining 30% were mostly Iraqis and with a few Iranians.

al-Qaida is not "making strongholds in Iraq"--listen to the facts, not Bush's propaganda.

al-Qaida has recovered its strength andorganization--but it is in Afghanistan and the Pakistani borderlands--where Bush pulled back 5 years ago. That's where their organization, their training camps, their leadership is--and the Bush administration is doing NOTHING about it.

Again--look at the facts, not the rhetoric. There's al-Qaida in Iraq, all right--recruited elsewhere, trained in Pakistan,--low level people, not the leaders.

We need to get or military out of Iraq-so we can bring most of them home now--and the rest after we go after our enemies where they really are. We don't need to waste any more Amrican lves on Bush's mistake or to protect hissick ego.

And WHAT does an Al Qaeda fighter seem as though ? Does he placed on a unit patch to locate himself ? Or a particular colored bandana, headgear or according to hazard a tatoo ? And who's "they" say this and "they" say that. would not be speaking approximately "Intelligence" organizations now might you ? Or the Iraqi's themselves telling us this ? Al Qaeda is everywhere they want to be.

doesnt sounds like it.
once we pull out, i suspect terriorstist attacks will become way more frequent. plus, the reason we went to Iraq was to help the citizens and if we leave, then we wont even be accomplishing the task we set up beforhand. Personally, though this may sound wack or even wrong, i think that we shold have a base in Africa, we can help out the citizens there and in return have access to the natural resources.

you must know something that federal government doesn't.

in their very recent report on al quaeda and how the iraq war has actually helped them to regain their strength, it also stated that they were mostly located in the border region along the afganistan - pakistan border.

if we want to fight al quaeda - lets get the troops out of iraq and put them where they actually are...

You obviously have never been deployed to Iraq, or ever had a loved one deployed there...If you had you would have never posted this question...Google search, "Iraq Veteran's" and you will understand...

No, we can't pull out. That would be premature evacuation.
