Is it a bad idea to microwave the bottle liners? Has anyone done this? I only microwave the bottles at 15sec max. Just trying to think of easier and faster ways to make formula. Thanks.

We always did and never had any problem except when we used the cheapie liners, except parents choice, for generic they are pretty good. Another thing we did, this probably won't help you since it's summer, but the baby was born in Oct so we used heat every day. I would put the bottle with water only on the furnace vent by my bed and the can of powder formula on the dresser. Then, when he woke to eat the water was already pefect temp, just add powder.
And even in the occassional desperate time we have put the liners upside down on the top rack of the dishwasher and used them again--never had one leak.

It is a bad idea for a number of reasons.

First, heating fluids in plastic leeches oestrogen from the plastic into the fluid, as well as chemicals contained in the plastic. If you must use plastic bottles or liners, heat the milk before you pour it into either.

Second, studies done in Europe suggest that microwaves alter the molecular structure of foods, destroying most if not all of the nutritional value.

The sad truth is that the old way is still the best and safest. Any midwife will tell you that breastfeeding is best, and that glass bottles are still the safest. Formula, by the way, is full of refined sugar. This is how the entire human race have become addicted to sweets.

I am not a granola munching tree hugger, here. I used disposable huggies and a lot of other modern conveniences, but nutrition is too important to take short cuts.

You shouldn't do it with bottle liners. That plastic isn't designed to be used in the microwave, so it could be breaking down and putting chenicals into the formula. Hence why there are certain plastic containers that say specifically if they're microwave safe. You don't *have* to warm up formula since most babies handle room temperature formula just fine, or else you can just use warm water from the faucet (if your faucet water is safe).

the box from the bottle liner will tell you precisely not to heat the bottle liner because the plastic on the liner is super thin. that means when you heat it, there might be a chance the liner will break and the hot formula will spill on your baby. what i do when i have to use a liner is i pour the formula in a small bowl or cup and heat it, then pour it back into the liner.

i used the avent via cups with caps to make the formula and then put it into the bottle liners, it was easier to do that instead of making formula into a bottle and having to wash it with the dishes later. this way, i could just clean the cup and cap and throw away the liner. works well, better than --- microwaving the liner and having it possibly burn a hole, spill, and waste formula. :)

I never microwaved them. I used to make a pitcher and then pour them it into a bunch of bottles, put them in the fridge and then use the bottle warmer. I have now realized its sooooo much easier to just use warm water and make the bottle when you need it!

Just put warm water in the bottle then the powder and mix. Then you don't even have to heat it up! I just use warm water from our tap. Room temp water is ok too - bottles don't necessarily have to be warmed. Also I use the formula dispensers that have 3 spots for the powder. Just twist and pour! Very easy! Munchkin makes a nice one.

My friend has a daycare and she microwaves them. Of course, the parents said it was okay because that's what they do themselves. I microwave my sons bottle too. His don't have liners though. Shake it before you give it to your baby and test it on your wrist. 15 seconds isnt' going to make it too hot.

they say not to but i always do. it has something to do with the plastic getting too warm i think. 15 seconds isn'tmuch, i wouldn't worry about it. if you are worried maybe get bottles without the liners.
