I know you are not to attach the laminate to the floor underneath. So what is the best way to allow for the pivots and brackets for the bifold doors? Do you just cut around? Has anyone found any ideas that not only work but also look good?

I'm talking about the brackets attached to the floor for the pivots, pins etc. that hold the bifold door. These do not attach at the sides, only at the floor. Has anyone changed these brackets? Did you re-attach to the floor, or just cut around?

Remove the doors
Measure the distance the pivot hole or pin is from the door frame.
Remove the brackets.
Lay the floor
Replace the brackets
You may have to trim the same thickness as the Laminate floor off the bottom of the doors - remember to remove the pivots from the bottom of the doors first.

This is the best way to do this job and have it look good and work properly.

The answers above are headed in the right direction. When I have done this I use a scrap of the laminate to set the height above the floor that the cut will be made. I use a cheap dove tail saw rather than an expensive back saw. The cheap dove tail saw has a handle like a screw driver and can be bent at an angle so you are not banging your knuckles against the floor when you make the cut. Lay the scrap of laminate flat on the floor and lay the saw flat on the laminate then just under cut the door molding and door jamb to the depth you need. This method can also be used when tiling a floor or installing conventional wood floors.
