Goldfish are well known as water pigs... they usually eat a lot. The fish is probably softening it's food when it takes in in it's mouth and spits it back out that way. That's not uncommon for a fish to do, especially with pellets.

If the fish is floating and can't swim to the bottom without lots of effort then yes, it is sick. Given the way it is eating, I would say it probably is constipated. Try feeding it a softened hulled pea or two for a few days and see if that doesn't help.

Yup, the panicked eating is just a sign that your goldfish is healthy enough to be hungry (a very good sign.) What kind of food do you feed your fish? if it is a pellet food, you might want to soak it in a cup of your tank water for a few minutes before giving it to you babies. This will help to soften the food, so when the fish gulp it down they won't get air bubbles in their system and will be able to more easily digest the food.

Hope that helps!

Goldfish are usually great eaters. A common problem with them is when they start floating. Usually giving it a shelled pea works. Sometimes fish will take food into their mouth and spit it out cause they aren't used to it. I have noticed this happening when I give my fish a new food to eat.

Yes. Fish are commonly very gluttonous eaters (eating until the point of death). If not dying, it's definitely ill.
