Im giving the ear the care that they told me is this normal?

Give it time... as long as you aren't playing with it (don't even touch it unless you are cleaning it) you should be fine... if you really want to know how long it will be before it isn't swollen and red anymore, phone the place you got it pierced at... If that amount of time passes you need to do something about it...
Also watch for infection... b/c if that happens, you need to do something about it too...(ie: you may need to see a doctor)

It could be a part of the normal healing process, but it could also be a sign of an infection.
Is your ear hot? If so, I'm betting it is infected.

I'd go back to the place and ask them, then go to your doctor and get checked also and get medicine for the infection. You'll probably have to take the piercing out until it's healed.

keep it clean! And rotate it when you remember. Give it some time and then if you need to do somethign about it, then see a doctor. But, everyone is different with cartlidge piercings. Be patient, but always remember to wash it.
