I mean, why doesn't he just bring the troops back?

Because they haven't finished their job.

Of course, I don't agree with much of what he's done to help them in their mission. I believe his efforts have been far too limited, I agree with that mission.

So I ask you, what's wrong with the democrats? Why don't they understand what would happen in Iraq and the U.S. if we simply surrendered to our enemies?

because at this point he's stuck by his failed policy so long and banked his entire legacy and that of the republican party on his invasion. to admit he was wrong (even though the facts can't be argued) would cause him and his party (as well as their blind loyal sheep) to lose face.

and in his (and clearly many who frequent these boards) mind it's better to save face than lives.

besides, if he pulled the troops out, the american public would quickly notice all of his regime's failings on the domestic front such as failing education, health care, destruction of medicare, the rampant epidemic of cronyism, the obliteration of our American ideology embodied in the now downtrodden (but never truly destroyed) sacred U.S. Constitutionetc etc.

I see answers that say because the job isn't done yet. He invaded /occupied. Tore up the country. Got Saddam. Misplaced thousands. Troops dying. Innocent Iraqis dying. What is left for this genius to do? Build a strategic military base. That's it.

Pulling the troops out at this point in time would destabalize the region too much. Furthermore, it would allow al-Qaeda to take control of Iraq, not only putting two terrorist nations with a pathological hatred of the US in the same area...it would put two terrorist nations with a pathological hatred of each other's beliefs side by side.

If you think Iraq is a mess now...it can't compare to what Iraq and Iran would be like next year if we pulled out today.

Because Bush, Cheney, and their buddies at Halliburton are making some serious money over there. You don't think they are going to give up that kind of money just because of few thousand American Solders have lost their lives do you....?

It would make the US a totally unreliable nation to have any dealings with. It would leave the Iraqis to the mercies of Al Qaeda and Iran. It might make Bush look bad which is ALL that most democrat leaders and leftest fringe care about, but it would be a disaster to the Iraqis and to the image of the US.

That would deffeat the whole purpose of going over there. We want to get terrorist out Iraq. We did that but if we leave now the Iraqi government is too weak and the terrorist will just come right back in.

To bring the troops home after the region has been destabilized would be a tragic mistake.
