I'm going to venture the guess "Eddie and the Cruisers" but never having seen it, I don't know for sure.
I'd recommend the IMDb "I Need To Know" discussion board - those people are freaky good at ID'ing these things.

hmm.. I don't think it was Breakfast Club as they said.. there was a hell of a lot more to the essay than that..
I'd say more like.. Fast Times at Ridgemont High.. or something along that line..
