Your V nickel is definitely a 1912 date, as there are only five 1913-dated specimens and they have all been accounted for. One is in the ANA museum, another in the Smithsonian's museum and the other three are in private hands. The value of your 1912 depends on the condition and mint. The 1912-S(small S under the dot before CENTS) is rare and worth at least $200 in vern worn condition where Liberty head is flat and Liberty on headband partialy visible. The 1912-D is worth about $3, and the 1912 about $1-$1.50 in the same condition. Values are about twice stated if all letters in Liberty on headband show but front part of hair flat. Cleaned and damaged coins are valued considerably less.

Well if your dad gave it to you I wouldn't sell it if i were you.
My mom gave me a 1925 Yugoslavian Royal Dinar and I wouldn't part with it for anything, not because i'm a collector, but because i want to have something of her when i look back.

If it is in perfect or near-perfect condition, it's worth a few dollars. If it's worn, not really.

I would google this item and definitely keep it for a rainy day. It is special because it is from your Dad. :)
