I'm 14 years old, and I'm wondering if anyone could help me. You see, my cousin, who was 5 months and 12 days old, suddenly died while my aunt left him on the bed. The following symptoms are these: his sclera developed black patches, his back developed some form of rash after a while, and after 3 or 4 hours, his hands and feet turned slightly blue. My mother, who is a doctor out of practice for a while, says she can't figure out whether it's a disease or whether he was poisoned. For my part, I rather am inclined to think the latter, for he was a perfectly healthy baby with no signs of disease whatsoever. Any suggestions?

P.S. By the way, the doctor thinks it's shaken baby syndrome. As far as I'm concerned, my uncle's busy most of the time to be doing that sort of thing, and I don't think my aunt would do anything of the sort, either.

Oh, and the baby had jaundice.
Also, it had been 5 months already, but my aunt was still feeding him on milk.

I'm really sorry you and your family had to go through this ordeal. I hate to say this but if the doctor thinks it might be shaken baby syndrome, it could possibly be. Any parent can get to the point when the baby won't stop crying to shake a baby, even if its unintentional. I've been in the situation where I've just been so frustrated that my daughter wouldn't stop crying that I had to put her down in her crib and leave until someone else got there, because I was afraid I could do something I would truly regret. The doctors will find out during an autopsy to find the cause of death.

Doing drugs will not make you employ the lavatory correct away...Now if she has been on drugs the complete time while pregnant then that may have anything to do with her loss of life or now not. I know of folks that done the hell out of drugs and their babies have been born excellent. If she died per week ago then possibly they did do an post-mortem on her. In the event that they suspected whatever like homicide then yea they might have however my aunt's neice had a child who used to be 6 months ancient when she died and they was once no longer going to do an post-mortem on her but our household insisted on it and the outcome: My aunts neice smothered that youngster to dying... I've identified of men and women demise then a week or so later the funeral will take location because of money issues/preparations... I am sorry in your loss and what this has done to your family. Call social offerings on her if she has other children or if he does. Simply call anyways if she is on medicinal drugs and see if they are able to do whatever about it.

Could have been a virile infection like menigacocol which can come on all of a sudden and kill. There may or may not have been warning signs. It can be hard to figure out even to professionals. A post mortum would be conducted because they would want to find out why a previously healthy baby died.

I am sorry for your loss but I wouldnt jump to conclusins as this can have reprecussions

you are too young to be worrying about all of this. i am so sorry you lost your baby cousin, its sad to lose anyone but especially difficult when its an infant.
the doctors will ascertain what the cause of death was, in the meantime, all you can do is try to be helpful and supportive to your aunt and uncle.
other than that there isn't much you can do except be strong and know that he is in a far better place now.
take care

Listen to your mom. If it's really bothering you about baby's death, tell mom and see if she will insist on a post-mortem, read the results herself.

I'm sorry that happened. It's so sad when a baby dies. But it does happen sometimes. Mourn and cry for a few days, and then let him go. He would not want for you to make yourself sick over him. He'd want you to be happy.

Your baby cousin's death is very sad. If my baby cousin died, I would say a prayer for him. I think you should not worry about who is to blame. Sometimes babies die. They are little and vulnerable. Let the doctors decide whether to investigate.

By the way, lots of autopsies are research, not forensic. So whatever happens, I wouldn't worry about it.
