My husband and I tried for 6 years to have a baby. I was hardly ever having a cycle and when I did I was not ovulating because I have PCOS. After 5 years of trying, I found out I had PCOS and my DR. put me on Metformin. I took the medicine and started having a cycle every month, but it did take me losing weight and excercising for a year before we got pregnant. The pregnancy was problem free and I had a baby girl in 2003. After she was born I got back on the Metformin and got pregnant again without even trying! I had my son in 2005-I never thought in a million years I would be so lucky afer so many tears over infertility. I trully believe that Metformin was the miracle drug I had been waiting for. It worked for me-hopefully it will work for you too!! Good luck!! Oh there is a web site for women suffering with PCOS, it's called soulcysters, I think...

I have PCOS and am currently TTC. I just started Metformin just about 3 weeks ago, still no luck yet .. I have hope though! Here's a website you can read
http://www.infertilityspecialist.com/metformin_kutner.html
If you to go yahoo and type "metformin - pcos" It'll bring up a whole bunch of sites that talk about success rates for PCOS sufferers using metformin to ovulate and conceive. I wish you luck and lots of baby dust!

I don't have PCOS myself but I have been TTC for a year now and have been all over the internet and on the message boards and have heard about PCOS. I know that there are a few obstacles that you may need to overcome such as getting on a normal cycle and you may need drug for ovualtion but there are MANY women out there with PCOS that have healthy babies. If you need some encouragement you can visit my favorite site www.twoweekwait.com and visit the section about TTC with PCOS and read their success stories. Good Luck!!!

it is harder for a woman with pcos to conceive on her own if she is not ovulating frequently or at all. but some women with pcos do ovulate. if you have regular periods then start charting your (basalbodytemp) bbt to see if you are ovulating. if your periods are irregular then yes it makes sense to get some medical assistance. Unfortunately, you'll find lots of contradicting info on PCOS. I recommend checking out hormomehelpny.com for very accurate info and maybe check out a copy of dr. Redmond's book.
It seems the best course for treatment in most women is metformin with or without clomid. also exercise and try a reduced carb/sugar diet.

I have PCOS as well and conceived my son without a problem. However #2 has been a little more difficult (ttc 18 months). So, it is possible to concieve on your own, but can be very difficult. Go to tryingtoconceive.com - great discussion boards!

That is absolutely horrable that your doctor told you that. Because it is probably untrue. woman with PCOS concieve naturally all the time, and also have very good luck with invitro as well. I have PCOS and I am also on Metformin, it really takes a toll on my tummy, but they say it really helps, but its not an instant cure. I am also on Clomid but I am only on my first month. Best of Luck to you. And please, if you have any questions or just want to talk to someone else who is going through the same thing as you , email me ... Cncinderella325@ yahoo . com
