I drive a 99 altima, and today I noticed that my parking brake and check battery lights were on. My car is running fine so far, does anyone know what the problem might be?

update: ok, now the lights are off for both of them. should I still have it looked at, or just wait until they go back on?

It is DEFINITELY your alternator. The battery, brake, and usually ABS lights will go on. Your car will run for a little while longer, then it will die. A jumpstart will not get you going. I would put my car on a battery charger ASAP if you can't get it fixed soon. Use very little power options...ie..A/C, headlights, etc. Also, check to see if the serpentine belt is still on the engine. You may have thrown it.

Don't answer questions when you don't know what you are talking about, esp. on a safety issue. Red Brake lights mean your park brake is on OR that there is a problem with your braking system. That could mean that fluid is low or there is a leak in the system and you only have 1/2 of your brakes, not "worn out" unless you have let that get to the point where you have lost fluid. STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE. (Red lights mean STOP, in case you did not know that) Get it towed to a garage.

Usually these light come on when you put you key and in the ignition but yet the car has not start. But if you the same to be a problem, you need to make sure you don't have your hand brake on also. I had similar problem with my 98 ford Taurus. Also you need to check the fuse around the battery cable in your car engine and tried to clean around it or even removed that dirty that is around the pluck to the battery. Also check the fuse level in your battery.

check and make sure the parking brake is all the way off sometimes they will stick a little,on the battery light id check all the connections real good, see if any are loose or corroded real bad,if that's not it you might need to have the alternator checked,it may be going bad on it,that will make the light come on.it just means its not charging as good as it should ,but have it checked,it could go all the way put on it and leave you stranded somewhere, good luck hope this helps.

battery might have a low amp output, or a bad cell, or even a bad connection. read up in your owners manual to start troubleshooting, or take it to a shop. Usually if your parking brake light is on, and your parking brake itself is not on, its usually an indication that your brake fluid is low. Check that first

Sounds like the alternator isn't functioning. Take the car in and get it serviced soon. You may find yourself stuck on the side of the road. good luck.
