I have a ceiling fan that has been mounted on the celing for years, I'd say about 20. Now I turned the lights off and came back into the room only to find that none of the lights turn on(there are four). But, when I go and turn the fan on with the pulldown rope it turns on. So I kept on tugging down the rope for the light, but no luck. Is their a fuse blown or something like that. What's your input.

Thank you Kat, cause I have not figured that out. First off tried that bit I knew it didn't matter. Rich Z when you say the switch do you mean in the wall and also when I take the lamp section apart what am I looking at?

It sounds like the problem is the switch (most likely) or the wire from the switch to the group of lights is loose (less likely). All four bulbs failing at the same time is far fetched. You might need to demount the lamp section and test it with a new pull chain switch.

you could have a loose wire, did you change the light bulbs?also the light switch is probably defective.

it was working and you pulled the chain to turn it off then it would not turn on again,,, duh,,, replace the 20 year old pull switch ,,,, they are mechanical and prone to failure!!
