I'm arguing about it with my sister but I could have sworn they were little boys and not actual rodents. The girl chipmunks look like girls, and not one of them have fur or a tail.

All three are animated (cartoon) chipmunks. There was no girl in the trio. There was Alvin, Theodore, and Simon. Alvin was the leader. Theodore was the chubby one who went along with everything they done. Simon was the tall, intelligent one.

they are chipmunks - of course they are also the size of normal kids and wear clothes but they are chipmunks

Yep. Chipmunks. Dave rescued them when their birthmother left them on Dave's doorstep.
And The Chipette's must shave or somethign because I'll be honest with you. . . they were cute.
