Depends which country you're in.

I'd suggest the larger budget retailers during their sales.

Some have schemes where you can spread the payment.

Be careful of internet companies, some advertize their wares cheaply and suddenly there are all kinds of hidden costs. So check them out thoroughly - preferably use one someone you know has already used.

There may even be some warehouse type outfits that sell 'seconds' - brand new, not perfect, but not badly flawed at hugely discounted rates.

Good luck!

Don't go too cheap otherwise you will get sagging shelves within weeks.

You could try ebay. A friend sold a solid wood kitchen on there for very little - better than throwing it away. You may need to do a bit of altering, but it's worth a look.

I've always found Ikea stuff good if you go down the bought route.

Hi there Colin, I am considering having a new kitchen. My budget is also restricting me, so I have decided to keep the frames of my kitchen units and simply replace the doors and draw fronts. My friend has just done it, and it really looks like a brand new kitchen. Here is the website address:

All the best! :o)

Check with local kitchen showrooms for display sales. Also, if a showroom has kitchens that were ordered incorrectly. There are some great deals out there. Our company has had kitchens that were ordered wrong. We have sold the lot to a salvage company. We are in the Midwest US. Good Luck!

Screwfix.com (link below) sells cheap kitchens as do B&Q/Homebase. But what screwfix do even better is that they also sell the carcasses and doors separately. The carcasses are really good value and lots of companies to replacement budget doors so you can buy from screwfix or look around for ones you really want.

Another budget option is Wickes (link below) who do take-away kitchens. These are flat-packed and available in store. Choose a style you like online, head to your nearest store, buy all you need including hinges, handles etc and put them in yourself.

If you live in the UK go to B&Q and look at there IT range, They sell affordable flat pack carcasses and doors. The carcasses are supplied with clear instructions and are very solid as long as you fix them to the wall using the brackets supplied and a pack of nickel plated cabinet connectors to join the cabinets together (One near the top of the cabinets one near the bottom). Buy the door style of your choice when ready, Then fit them on. If you buy the doors in a sale (which is often) you could save yourself some serious money. That's what I did.

If you're after cheap you could always buy some laminated mdf sheet and cut your own - Then just buy the doors and some hinges. It even comes in kitchen unit widths (12'' 18" etc)

Two sides, one back, one base, one kickboard. Couple of shelves - bish bosh, all for about a tenner a unit plus the cost of a door.

Howden's are good value. They usually give discounts too if you push them. They're mainly trade, supplying the likes of MFI, but they do sell to the general public. Give them a ring.

I'm really pleased with my kitchen from there.

B&Q 16mm are cheap. to extend the life of any cheap cabinet make sure they are properly fixed to the walls and each other, it'll make them feel really solid.
