I think it's really not a problem with any one sport, and I don't think golf or Nascar are exceptions either. Nor do I think it's because football is particularly violent, there are plenty of violent sports.
What I believe the problem to be, is that athletes are paid astronomical sums of money and sometimes their background/environment/abilities don't prepare them to deal with fame and riches and they make bad decisions, sometimes of the career-ending type.
Another thing to consider is ego: some athletes seem to think they are irreplaceable and indispensable, and that they are above the law and common sense. Good as they may be, nobody is that important, especially in team sports.
By no means am I generalizing, there are many examples of educated professional athletes from different backgrounds who carry themselves as the role models they are to kids and as outstanding members of society, so I think this is a personal issue: some people are better equipped to deal with these things than others. As a result, you see people making bad decisions and they get plenty of coverage.
I'm sure there are tons of similar cases outside sports where individuals make bad decisions, they just don't get media coverage.
Now Vick is just an example of another bad decision maker, and I feel it was awful of him to say family members were taking advantage of him and feign innocence. I'm really sorry for the dogs. They didn't have a choice.

I might alternatively Michael Vick at Michael Vick than Michael Vick. I consider Bam Bam's Favre Q, I might alternatively Brett Favre than Michael Vick. Poor Eagles they are getting Michael Vicked Being Brett Favred is incredible. Beinged Michael Vicked is just about as dangerous as Michael Vick

O.K., I get it, athletes can do stupid things too. Sadly, Mr. Vick will not, ultimately, be held accountable for his bad decision making. He will not miss playing a down in the NFL and he will not learn a thing about how to participate properly within our society. In other words, as an admired professional athlete, he is above the law. We may have to wait a few months to see if I am correct in my assumptions, but he will get off scot free. That is just the way it works today.

I'll tune in, but until Michael Vick is taken care of and suspended from the NFL anything to do with the Atlanta Falcons in my home is banned... no question about it.
I don't want to watch that piece of garbage except if he was being beaten to death.

what he has been accused of is just plain disgusting, dirty, cruel and WRONG. i don't care if dogs are not human, they are living things with emotions and pain just like any of us, the only difference is that dogs are powerless and helpless when face with a f*#ked up human being. anyone who takes part in dog fighting or see it as a sport are just as dirty as vick is. he should be kicked off the team for good and do time for murder!

He is a COCKY BASTARD!
The war is important. However, the men/women in the military signed up for it the dogs did not.
He is not fit to live in society....Jeffrey Dahmer started off killing/torturing animals too.

You forgot about the wrestler that killed his family.
I don't think athlete's are any different than anyone else but celebrities are targeted more and receive harsher pentalities.. and as unfortunate and horrible as it is.. dog fighting is a sport (illegal) but people pay alot of money to watch them.. I LOVE dogs but there are more important things to worry about.. i.e. our troops getting killed in Iraq

I believe people who enjoy Football actually have a lower mental capability. They just haven't evolved as others.
