Do packages delivered though regular US Postal Services (say from amazon.com) come in a truck sent especially for that package?

Also, does this truck usually come earlier or later than usual mail delivery?

I worked in a mail warehouse for a couple of years, and I can tell you that it all goes through the same place. Packages and letters go through different machines, but leave on the same trucks, and go to your mail box on the same delivery truck.

Your package deliveries are sent with your regular letter mail to your house. If the package is too big to fit in your mailbox, then your postal carrier will attempt to deliver the package to someone in the house. They typically do not leave these packages on the porch, like UPS or FEDEX will. (I have had such packages left on my porch for apparantly a few days because I never knew it had arrived. Even though I was home all day! They did not honk their horn, or knock at the door. They just dropped it on the porch and left. I just happened to be cleaning my porch later that week and found it under my grill! *sorry, bit of a rant*) USPS package deliveries are better I think, for that reason. If they can't deliver it that day, they either attempt again the next day and/or leave a note with your mail that you have a package awaiting pick-up at your local post office.

The only time that my package has not come on the same truck was when I had to go to the post office to sign for it, but other than that it comes with your other mail.
