How do you know when an equation has infinitely many solutions?

When you have a completely simplified equation involving variables in which the left hand side and right hand side are identical.

Example:
x = x

This has infinitely many solutions. Any value of x will satisfy the equation.

Periodic functions have infinitely many solutions too.
