ok i have a red male betta fish and he is not agressive at all. he lives in a 1 gallon tank with a bubble tube.he has a green fake plant the he sleeps in an it has normal brown tank rocks with blue marbles mixed in. also he has 2 sea-shells. i couldn't find a background so i drew one with fish and he was fine and now he is stressin over the fish. should i take the background off? also, what is some other tank decore i could use to make scooby (my fish) more comfortable and make his tank feel homey? please send websites other than pet-co. does he need a bigger tank?

I love your question. I like big aquarium with lots of big small fish around. (we have the same background for our avatars, see...)

Hey, I am sure you can buy beautiful posters for fish tank at your nearest stores. Or you don't like them? Because I notice that your tank is not meant for the wall type right. Maybe you can put your tank at the corner with window (not too close) so that scooby could get some natural light during the day and sleepy mood at night when you put your curtain down. I am sure he/she will be happy.

You can put side lamp (with yellowish light bulb) at the corner too for show off when your friends come around.

If h spends lots of time flaring at the drawing, then certainly take it down and draw something a bit different for his tank. I think that's a great idea, drawing your own background.

I would suggest that you remove the shells though. Real sea shells are not good for freshwater tanks and could cause him problems in the long run.

Other than that, I think what you have is great for him. A plant to feel safe in and also plenty of swimming room. If I were you I wouldn't change anything except the shells.

If the drawing is upsetting him, just remove it. Also you don't have much room to put more stuff in your tank because it's just one gallon. He needs room to swim around and be comfortable. I'd suggest upgrading to a 5 gallon tank and then you'll have a few more options in adding decor.

Well they need places to hide and if you remove it and dont add good enough hiding places then the fish could get stressed and get ill. So, maybe adding rock work with caves that allow you to see into and add some real or fake plants. Real plants will help keep nitrates down. hope this helps.
