Well, there are the normal cosmetic-type mirrors, which have a silvered backside. You have to look through a layer of glass to get the reflection.

Then you have Front-surface mirrors. These are the ones you don't touch with bare hands- they are silvered on the front so that sensitive optical equipment don't get a sort-of echo from the glass.
