The lint trap is on the inside and I clean it before every use but when I remove the lint screen I can see lint down in where it is almost impossible to get at with a vacuum. Any ideas out there?

for a quick fix get an empty cardboard paper towel roll and put it on the end of your vacuum hose, you can then flatten the end of the cardboard and insert it into the dryer duct, or any other place that is hard to reach.

Since the cloths dried without the vent hose hooked up that means the line going out is still clogged up enough to cause the dryer to not vent properly. they sell a sweeper made for small lines that screws together like a chimney sweep, they have it at Lowe's. Get that cleaned out and make sure that there isn't any kinks in the hose when you put it back together. The elements are fine.

Check your local hardware or appliance store. Threre are special brushes on long flexible handles made specifically to clean out the innards of your dryer.

There are long flexible brushes made for exactly that. They have fat soft bristles on a flexible wire shaft. They sell them at Home Depot for example. They even have them on late night infomercials on TV.
