Is it legal to track your child in your car with a gps device?

Yes it is. They have no privacy rights as minor's.

In fact, it would be legal for you to have a tracker IMPLANTED if you chose. Though I find that extreme.

I'm assuming the child is old enought to drive. If you own the car, then I think it is legal for you to track it regardless of who is driving it. The only time it would be illegal to track someone without their knowledge would be when the police do so without a warrant.

you're the parent, you're the only one who needs to know where they are at ALL times. it's more legal that stopping at a stop light.

yes. unless they are 18 and they tell you not to. well you can always say that you want to no where your car is going and go with that. lol
