There are a few earthquake scientists at my church who have been saying for awhile now that the "big one" is coming to L.A. at any moment. Obviously this hasn't happened yet. Does anyone have any reasons, scientific, intuition-wise, etc. that it may or may not happen?

I would say yes.
a 'big one' is about due, but the time frame could be +/- 50 years, so I don't sweat that.
but i feel like we get a good 5.5 to 6.5 every 15~20 years somewhere in LA. Northridge was '94. so I expect a 6.0 or so in the next couple of years.

I've been hearing about the
"big one" happening for the last 50 years. I quit listening long ago. I now live in "earthquake" country and it doesn't bother me a minute. There are bigger
things to worry about than what "may" happen. I'm still
trying to figure out yellow days/orange days/and red days. Maybe tomorrow it will
happen???? Should I be scared today??? Wooooooo

I did some research and the fault runs from San Fransicso to a little below LA. I believe it could happen at any time. I think there is no time limit.

Some of the land in that region is soft and spongy and so the waves caused by earthquakes can be transferred many miles from the epicentre than would be possible in other places. It is perfectly normal for the region.
