Me and a few friends are going to San Antonio soon and I was wondering where are some places to eat that are cheap, but nice? We're college kids and we're only going to be there for 3 days.
Cowboys training camp... we're really excited.

Also, we're looking at hotels that are cheap. Is the Red Roof Inn a safe hotel? I stayed in one in Missouri and it wasn't the Hilton, but it wasn't horrible. I was just wondering what you guys thought about the area. Know of any cheap hotels that are better?

Thanks!

Red Roof Inn isn't bad. Try to see if you can find a cheap hotel downtown as close to the riverwalk as possible and then just take taxi's to the training camp. When you aren't there, you have the River Walk for restaurants, movies, shopping, bars, clubs, the Alamo, all within walking distance.

If I were you I would definatly stay at some thing on the North end of town. You didn't state exactly where the training camp will be at.
I drive in on Intestate 10 and there are some very nice place off 10 that I would say are safe. I am talking about the area that is near Boerne or Helotes, near 1604 or Loop 410 which loops all away around the city.
Hope this is of some help, dont;t live there anymore, but I do visit relatives about 2 or 3 times a year.
Have fun at the Cowboys training camp!!!! I am not a football fan - but like the Cowboys because they are from the great state of TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!

As for food, you'll find mostly Tex-Mex, but it's good. Hole in the wall places can be the best, but they can also be the worst. If you want to try Tex-Mex, but want a more established place, try the Alamo Cafe(2 locations). Also, there is a restaurant called Little Italy that my family likes. It's a nice little place and the owners are actually from Italy, not someone who just makes some Italian food. I can't remember the exact address, but I remember it's just off of Blanco.

This is San Antonio, home of Tex/Mex food, so go for the hole in the wall Mexican Restaurants. Email me and tell me what area you are going to be in and I'll tell you some good food for cheaper than Micky D's alot more healthy as well as some good hotels. How many are sharing and what price range are you looking at.

La Quinta or Motel 6.What ever restaurant is around the area you will be at, you don't want to be driving around looking for one wasting gas.

The LaQuinta at Ritteman is a good choice and has good food in the area.
