Very good question. If I could waive a magic wand and become the one in charge for a day the following would be my platform regarding government assistance.
1. The Welfare Program was initially to be a helping hand
and not a way of life for generations.
2. You would be required to take a urine test.
3. You would also give back by volunteering in your
community at least 20 hours a week. You would take
your children with you if they were school age. This
will teach them the gift of giving back.
4. You would also have to be enrolled in school and seeking
your GED or college diploma.
5 I would give anyone the benifit of the doubt for one
unplanned pregnancy. If you have more, then you are
only reimbursed for the 1st.
Yes, you will probably consider me heartless and cruel. I get really p#### when I see someone I know is collecting assistance talking on their cell phones and driving a better car than I do.

Actually it costs lots of money to administer those urine tests; at least with welfare it is going to a good cause. If they gov't was just shelling out all that extra money for drug tests that by the way, most people on welfare would pass; that would be a larger waste of funds.

I've thought the same thing you have to get in the military and get killed( (fighting someones else"s civil war)whipping Christianity on them).Me to get a working wage job.people on welfare should be drugged screened randomly.I mean if you got the money for drugs you don't need assistance

And, furthermore, why does the ACLU not represent you when you have to drug test for a job, but supports the welfare recipients because drug testing them would be demeaning and prejudicial? Making it necessary for them to go to the welfare office every few months to affirm their identities and attest to their needs is also out of the question.
I think your question is a good one - and I agree that the majority of welfare recipients are deserving and need the assistance for basic needs - but I'm equally sure that we are supporting the drug habits of a minority of them, and that's revolting.
I support drug testing for job applicants if the employer so desires - but what's good for the goose should also be good for the gander.

Eighty percent of people on welfare and social security have a substance abuse history, so you're not the only one that supports them. The government has been supporting them forever and if they didn't, then they'd be tapping more people on the head to support their habit or camping out on your front yard. It would'nt work if they were all tested.

Yea, too many people lie on welfare, have kids to get welfare and other crazy s*** Take a test to weed out these people and leave the money for the people who really need it.

You make a good argument especially since the federal government made the war on drugs such a big issue.

I agree........if some welfare recipients are going to do drugs then I think welfare should do drug screening on everyone applying.
