OK, I have a 33gal tank with a large piece of driftwood, a large rock, and three live plants. In the tank I had an angel, three bolivian rams, a bushynose pleco, and ten copper rasboras (very similar to harlequins

About a week ago I did a water change and I forgot to put the chlorine meds in and the entire school of rasboras was wiped.

Now I need new fish but I don't think I want another school.
What I think I would like is at least two better sized more active fish with more character then the sheep-in-a-herd mentality of a school.

What I need is some suggestions for new fish that would be able to withstand a slightly acidic water (around 6.7), not eat live plants, and be able to "chill" with the angel, three bolivians, and the pleco. Please give any suggestions you can think of, any kind of species, I just need few guesses to starting running the names through fishprofiles.com and googel to get me started.

Thanks alot for the help ahead of time

I like the suggestion of Congo tetras, but they always have been a favorite of mine. Other than those, try a google image search on Aequidens. That is the genus for quite a number of medium sized south american cichlids. This group averages around 4-6" and are not very aggresive at all and should do fine with your rams and angels.

You might also consider moonlight gouramis. More peaceful that golds or blues, a little bit bigger at 6" or so and very pretty.

Most Tetras require schools and Gouramis will fight with the Angels fairly often because of the similar fin lengths. A better option would be a group of Yo-yo or Clown Loaches. They don't really school, it is much more playful and energetic. 3-5 Loaches would be best for either species. These are very smart fish that, like the Angelfish, prefer a good amount of plants and other hiding places, but if they are supplied, the fish will rarely use them. The Loaches will chase each other and play and sift through the sand or gravel. They are very active when kept in groups and a very fun fish to watch as they frolic through the tank. Good luck!

Rummy nose tetra's afraid they're still a shoaling fish but they not a little more active and slightly larger than your neon/cardinal tetra's
As someone suggested emperor or Congo tetra's darker iridescent colours.
Some of the smaller Gourami's Honey, Chocolate would go well.
Amazingly enough I like Wagtail Platty's they're good for keeping algae off the plants aswell.

I personally would add another angel (angel fish like company)

I have 2 iridescent cat fish in my tank, they are fun to watch as they are always on the go.

I also have 2 Cory cat fish which all though small are very cute looking.

Also long finned rosy barb are a good hardy fish that are also very pretty.

I would suggest talking to the aquatics person at your local pet store they can always tell you the best fish for your tank.

Tropical fish are somewhat straightforward to look after and there are a ton of diverse species, all very unique and definitley no longer boring. i began out out with tetras, mollies and freshwater sharks. Cichlids, discus and angels are the subsequent step up in maintainance.

emperor tetras or penguin tetras are nice about 3-4 of them look really good
or you could do about the same number of either cories or dwarf chain loaches.
giant danios also work well but may be a little too much for your tank
