Depends on how bad the threads are if they just need cleaned up you can chase them with a tap, but if tapping will oversize the hole you can either get a new mower or you can try to hli coil them, but they will only work once

Go to "Advanced auto" and get a plug re- threader. It's a small part the fits into the old hole, the plug then screws into this threading it into the hole and making a new plug holder. You can do this for autos also, it's easy and simple, you won't believe it. Bring the plug with you for the size. I've done it several times.
You will have to use this type of plug then, with the smaller thread diameter.

Cowboy doc is right. You can buy an insert kit from any small engine shop or parts store. It is quite easy to install yourself with a minimum of tools.

Go to Sears and buy a tap. Bring the sparkplug along so they can sell you the right size and thread.

take it to a small engine repair shop,sometimes they can chase the threads with a special tool or install new threads in the hole. that is called installing a heli-coil.

TRUTHFULLY IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO REPLACE THE HEAD IT WOULD BE A LOT EASIER TOO THAT WAY YOU WOULDNT GET METAL SHAVINGS IN YOUR CRANK CASE
