It is true, to an extint. You see when you get scared while watching any movie, your heartbeat rushes and beats very fast. This also makes your unborn baby's heartbeat do the same. And this 'could' lead to complications. You've seen pregnant women before get excited about something and then have to sit down before they pass out, this is the same thing. But, it's not just getting scared that causes this. You can also be watching a funny movie and laugh so hard it causes the same short-breathness. Remember, when you're pregnant you're not breathing fully normal so when you over do it, your baby over does it. It the movie actually scares you enough to bring you to tears, then you could seriously miscarriage your baby. Alot of factor differ in. It really depends on you and what you can handle watching. :-) I have seen pregnant women (twice anyway) actually pass out at the theatre from getting too frightened/excited. The would give them oxygen and luckily both these incidences were isolated and both woman (and babies) were fine, which is the norm. :-) good question
P.S. The guy above me here who just wants to use this question to say how The Exorcist is not even scary (and it may not be to him) he is not in the majority here and it's very famous for its scariness. He obviously doesn't care about your question, your well-being or that of your baby. Just depends on what scares you and the state that puts you in. :-)

Maybe it's true if you're one of those people who get VERY scared during the movies (the shock might pass onto the baby or something).

But I don't think the movies you watch will affect the baby... unless you're snorting horror :)

There is no medical reason to not watch horror movies while pregnant. A minor rush of adrenaline will not harm a growing child.

However, there may be religious groups who feel it's sinful to watch a movie about demons. But they're wrong too. I call them NUTJOBS. lol
