they are tropical fish, but they dont really need it. It would be good if you got a heater though.
It also depends on where you live. Room temperature is fine for fish.
edit: wow two thumbs down, the truth is heaters are optional in most cases, i have my tropical tanks, some have heaters and other dont. Truth again is you dont always need one, but like i said, it is good that you have one.
For those who voted down, you probably had a bettabefore, and probably never gave it a heater. When these fishes can live in 90 *F water, but when you look at neons where the water temp is warm, but never reaches 90*F, you would give them a heater.....
Again it isnt required, but it is good if you have it....

Yes, they absolutely need heat. They are tropical fish that require differing heats. Dwarf Gouramis do best in the high 70s to 82 degrees. The Neons and Glofish do best around 75-78. If you wanted to keep those fish together, you would need to have a heater and filter. Good luck!

Short answer: No Long answer: The dwarf frogs are mainly what keeps this from being a good combination. Dwarf frogs like to eat anything they can can fit in their mouths...especially neons--trust me, I used to work at Petsmart and the plannogram for the aquarium wall had the dwarf frogs in with the neons--bottom line: every night I closed up, we had fewer and fewer neons. Once you get the frogs out of the equation, your set up gets a little better. You do however, want to do some tweaking. I would suggest upgrading to a 10-15 gallon (you can get a kit rather inexpensively). Also, neons are schooling fish and do best in groups of five or more, so you may want to consider adding two more to your tank. Guppies thrive in groups of 2 females for every 1 male, so if you choose to add any more guppies, keep that ratio in mind. That about does it for a tank that size. A bottom feeder like a dwarf cory catfish may also be a nice addition, but you'll want to upgrade to a 20 gallon if you choose to go that route. The last thing I would suggest is a biowheel filter with slightly larger filtration than the size tank you've chosen. (i.e. 20 gallon filtration for a 10-15 gallon tank or 30 gallon filtration for a 20 gallon tank). Other than that, just make sure your heater is set to the proper temp, and you turn your lights off every night. Hope this is what you were looking for.

The glo fish is one of the fish that does not need a heater. The gouramis and neon tetras should be kept around 74-80 degrees.
Good question, though, many of the managers at the big box pet stores will sell you anything they can to boost their bottom line. Always research when they tell you something you have never heard before.

Actually, I have 5 tropical fish and I have no heater and they have been living 2 yrs +. My water stays about 75 degrees and above all the time and my fish do fine.Plus I have guppies also and they r fine too. I think my light in my tank keeps it warm enough. Give me thumbs down but its the truth..for me..

Yes tropical fish need a heater. Keep in mind the heater regulates the temperature which is also very important.

Yes, they do. The heater should be at least 5 watts per gallon.
