The previous answer was correct; the 235 cid 6 was the standard motor; though most people chose the v8, which for 1957 was the 283 v8 with the standard horsepower of 185bhp, though other higher performance 283's were optional. 1957 was the first year for the 283, 1962 was the first year for the 327 v8. Hope this helps, a car nut.

Didn't have one, the 327 came out in 1962. They may have had a 283 ranging from 185 to 283 hp.

You would have to double check chevy history but i believe you may have a 265 c.u. engine a v-8 model previous to the 283 and 327. Check the engine code stamped on the block, Stamped on it NOT cast into it.

They were in many chrysler cars and trucks from 1972 through 1978 and were low compression and not very powerful. But, as mentioned already can be made into a powerful eng. They did all have cast cranks too. I am building one now into a 512 cubic inch, it will have GOBS of torque.

The 327 V8 rated as follows:
250 bhp @ 4400 RPM
300 bhp @ 5000 RPM
340 bhp @ 6000 RPM
(the "fuelie" or fuel-injected got 360@6000)
