The Beatles! LOL...kidding.

Most prog-rock bands. King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Van Der Graaf Generator and so forth.

Nick Drake wasn't a prog rocker, but a folk singer. He was BRILLIANT, yet nobody these days seem to know who he was (I say "was" because he died a long time ago).

A long time a go in a decade far far away...There was "The Kinks" and as they hit the scene after working hard and touring, they started a movement that lured Mod Rockers to a new one called "Garage Rock".. The Kinks were so exposed that they failed to overcome all the copycat bands in the second British invasion and that is why they are officially the most underrated Rock act, even declared by The Rolling Stone!

Redd Kross. This is a band that started when they were kids in the late 70s and are still going. They were most influential in the 80s and are counted as a groundbreaking California punk band (album Born Innocent). They are acknowledged influences of Nirvana and the entire grunge movement (the album Neurotica). Their next album, Phaseshifter, is also amazing. They always sound great, recorded or live and have always been so much fun to watch live. There is no excuse for them not to be famous when bands like Guns and Roses (not at all similar, but also from California around the same time) got so big.

I hope you check them out and love them!

maximum underrated in all probability Cat Stevens and Jefferson airplane. Cat because of the fact he further sentimental intending to individuals-rock. He kinda bridged the hollow between hippie protest songs of the 60s to greater middle-united states of america of america friendly individuals-pop that became massive in the early 70s. Jefferson airplane because of the fact they have been the only psychedelic rock band that did not wander away in attempting to place across the alternative existence variety message. they purely stayed authentic to the actual incontrovertible fact that they have been there to have a stable time. regrettably their brilliance became lost in the prepare smash of an 80s band Jefferson Starship :(

The Mars Volta. That Cedric sounds like Freddie Mercury, I swear. The Guitarist is REALLY good.

Queens of a Stone Age. Josh Homme is brillant.

Spinal Tap. Not only do they go to eleven, but their songs are actually quite good.

This isn't typical rock, but Nine Inch Nails.
NIN is not a band, but a project by Trent Reznor. Trent Reznor has changed industrial music, and he keeps with his sound, while always sunding fresh. He's been doing this since '89. He composes all of his music, and his voice sounds like an angel. He plays various instruments and his lyrics are amazing. I know that NIN got popularity with Closer, but where is the love for all the other NIN cds?
