You are running a huge risk keeping them on calcium sand. It is the number one cause of impactions and death in these guys. I've seen it! Please use paper towels, ceramic tile, non-adhesive shelf liner on the bottom. Sand is NOT a natural living condition for these animals to live and eat in. It also holds a lot of bacteria. Go to

http://www.drgecko.com/index.html for great Leo care! I also like the forums at www.reptilerooms.com--you can see pictures of dead Leos that died from impaction, and talk to a lot of people who have had this problem.

They can get impacted on any type of sand, even calcium sand. Paper towels are the safest bedding to use for young leos. You should also be using a calcium dust on their crickets when you feed them and if you leave a small dish of the calcium powder in with them, they will eat it too.

Calcium sand is what any pet store or vet will tell you to use for geckos and other lizards. The calcium in the sand helps them to shed there skin as allot of 'pet' geckos suffer from calcium deficiency because of captivity.

I personally have never had a problem with my gecko and calcium sand. However if you are that concerned take them to the vet. It is very important that if you think your animal is in pain, suffering or ill that they go straight to the vet as they will always know best what to do.

Hope this helps,

Darkness

lol i love wat andrew said up there about the spelling but anyways any animal on any sand or fine substrate has a high chance to swallow a mouthfull of the stuff with there food so it would probably be bad for it to get it in its mouth anyways.

just be careful that they dont get a mouth full of the sand becasue then they wont be able to eat anymore.
