Each position is numbered and the number 6 is shortstop and the number 4 is second base. You are probably asking about a 6-4-3 double play which would be shortstop to second base to first base. For scoring purposes each position in numbered as follows:
1- Pitcher
2- Catcher
3- First Base
4- Second base
5- Third Base
6- Shortstop
7- Left Field
8- Center Field
9- Right field

Frizzer has already given you the correct numbering system so you can refer to that for the rest of this
The most basic double play is a 6-4-3 or a 4-6-3
The first number tells me who the ball was hit to -6
The second number tells me who the ball was thrown to -4
The third number tells me who position # 4 threw the ball to -3
I saw Keith Hernandez once in Shea Stadium w/ the bases loaded start a 3-2-5 double play. Man it was beautiful
Note: not all three number plays are double plays.
An 8-6-2 is not while a 9-5 might be

6-4-3 is a typical double play, shortstop(6) to secondbaseman(4) (one out) on to firstbaseman(3) (two outs double play) if a batter grounds to short with a runner on first.

i dont know exactly what the player numbers are but its like this

p-1
c-2
1b-3
2b-4
3b-5
ss-6
right f-7
center-8
left-9

if its 1-4-3

that means the pitcher fielded the ball and threw to 2b to get the force play and the 2b threw to first basemen
