I'm kind of annoyed because my mom won't let me paint my toenails blue. It's a really cute blue... light and shimmery. It's called moonlight blue or something. I really don't see why it matters what color I paint my toenails! I can see her not letting me dye my hair blue, but that's my hair and it can't wash off. Would you let your 13-year-old daughter paint her toenails blue? And can you explain why she doesn't want me to paint them blue?

She lets me paint them red and pink and stuff, just not blue (or probably not purple or green or orange, either. I just haven't asked for any of those colors yet!)

The only colours of nail polish we have in our house are purple, blue and silver lol. So I have no problem letting my 12.5 year old paint her toenails blue. Your mom may consider nail polish a type of make-up and be really uncomfortable with you experimenting with "strange" colours. The normal colours may be more acceptable to her because that is what she is used to. She may also associate other colours with punks or goths and be afraid that her little angel will get herself in trouble by expressing herself. Try talking to her and maybe show her what it looks like on you and maybe she'll be more understanding. Good luck and hope this helps.

Ok ... that makes absolutley NO sense. Your mom sounds like she needs to mental help because that is ridiculous!!! My 5 year old daughter paints her nails blue. COME ON!! She probably has this really weird reason like she painted her nails blue when she was 13 and that same night she fell in a ditch. Just leave it alone. You can paint them any other color. Just forget about the blue .. I wouldn't crawl into that rat's nest. If your mom gets mad, you dont know what will happen. She might have a nervous breakdown or something because she sounds really controlling and unusual.

Ok !!! And for the crazy guy that said he thinks teens are growing up too fast and he only lets his daughter paint their nails clear....HE NEEDS TO PICK YOUR MOTHER UP AND THEY CAN VISIT A SHRINK TOGETHER!!!! What is wrong with these people. They want to control their kids and keep them from doing normal kid stuff. And we don't need a history lesson about when you were in high school and no one could wear make up. THIS IS LIKE 20 YRS LATER!!! Get a life and stop living in the past.. gaw

I'm thirteen and my parents don't have a problem with it. Right now my toenails are purple. Will I go into a job interview with sandals and purple toenails? Probably not. Will I got barefoot in my house with purple toenails? Of course. It's summer, and it's fun!

Maybe she thinks blue is an unnatural color. I can't muster painting my fingernails blue, though.

I hope she lets you paint them!

First of all, if I had a 13 y/o daughter, I would be thrilled. And, you sound like an intelligent, thoughtful girl that I would be proud to have as a daughter!

I probably wouldn't let her use any kind of toenail polish except the clear kind. I just think that 13y/o is too young for that. Many would disagree with me.

I think that teens are in too much of a hurry to be adults or have adult privileges. What does toenail polish have to do with that? It's just a part of adult dress style. When I was your age (how many times have you heard that? And, don't you hate it?) girls were not allowed to wear nylons until they were in high school, and then, only for special occasions. Girls could not wear make up until high school, not even lipstick.

I don't know why you're mother won't let you use blue toenail polish. Actually, from your description, it sounds like it would be very attractive. But for many years, women have only worn shades of red for toenail and fingernail polish. Other colors for fingernail polish is a fairly recent phenomenon. Have you asked her why?

I think that if you were to say to your mother something like," Mom, I respect you as my mother and I'm not going to use the blue toenail polish because you don't want me to. Just for my own knowledge, would you tell me why I can't wear it? It would help me to know.", that she probably will tell you.

My best wishes for you, now and in your future life.

She won't let you paint them blue? Well yea I'd let my 13 year old(If I had one) daughter paint her toenails blue, Its only finger nail polish. I paint my boyfriends 2 year old daughter nails blue...Maybe she has a 'past' with Blue fingernail polish, or scared of the Color blue(Which people can REALLY be scared of Blue. Its a phobia, i saw it on TV once.)

As a mother with two daughters I have no idea why your mother would not let you paint your toenails blue, I wouldn't care if my daughters did and when my girls get to age of thirteen I wouldn't stop them from dying their hair blue either - I did it. I agree with you, there is no logical explanation to not let you paint your toenails any color you want. Have you asked your mom why she won't let you?

That makes no sense. I would let you paint your toenails whatever colour you wanted.

Sure why not... I'd even let mine paint her nails black. I dont see anything wrong with it. Some parents or people may consider dark colors trashy for some reason. I think their cool.

you should talk to your mom about it. i would let my 13 year-old paint her nails blue -- i'll even go with her to the nail salon to get it done! but talk to you mom and find out why she feels that way.
