I want to put the more powerful 6cyl. engine into the classy older model car. They are both horizontally opposed, in line, air cooled engines. And the model of the cars are very close. But I don't know if one will fit the other. Or if so, what kits, mods or converstions are necessary.

They make engines that are very powerful for the 356. The type of car your looking to build is call an outlaw. I was looking at 2 cars yesterday (356A and a speedster) that were running modified 916 motors in them. As with anything old Porsche it going to cost heavy. Join http://www.356registry.org/ to learn more about it, I think they can point you in the right direction.

It can be, and has been done, but it is not a simple or straight forward swap and will require a fair amount of modification to the body of the 356... and given the increasing rarity of the older Porsches, a chance which would substantially devalue the car.

And depending on which model 911 engine you use, there is a good chance you will be putting in too much engine for the chasis, and may need to undertake some structural enhancements... as well as look at upgrading the brakes and suspension which were not designed for the heavier 911 engine or it's power.

A better option would be looking at options with the existing engine or engine swaps involving other 356 engines.

Well frm wht I know is tht you can if the Engine is frm the First 911 then I thick it'll not be a problem, but I think you should leave your classic ride calssic and maybe after another 5-10 years you might be able to sell it for a Million dollars!!!, you never know.
