My sister was trying to be helpful, and washed my car this morning when I left for a mother's group with my son. When we got back, I noticed that she had put wax on it--great! It needed to be waxed.

Apparently it got too hot or maybe she really did have to work on VBS. Whatever the issue, I just noticed that she buffed probably 1/4th of the car and it's been about 6 hours!!

I just tried to go out there and work on it, but being 8 months pregnant and with a 2 year old it's pretty much impossible. It's caked on.

Should I try some more after my son goes to bed? Should I continue buffing or just wash it off with car soap and water? Any ideas?

Dried wax is difficult to remove. The waxes today are polymer based and dry into a plastic like film. The only way to remove it is to use two separate soft cloths. The first soaked in rubbing alcohol, which will soften the dried wax, and the other with more wax. Rub on the alcohol, then immediately spread and buff the new wax. Being pregnant, I highly recommend that you do not expose yourself to either product. Check your local yellow pages and find a hand car wash business in your area. They should have these on hand and would take care of your problem quickly and expertly. Even if it costs 40 bucks to wash and wax, it will be worth it so you are not exposed to the solvents and other chemicals in the wax.

That's why the instructions on the wax cans say, "do a small area at a time" and "do NOT apply wax while surface is hot or in the sun". About the only way to get it off is to apply more wax, a small area at a time, to remove the baked on stuff and buff it out as you go. Get some help and good luck.

Waxing todays car's with basecoat/clearcoat finishes is very important. The wax provides additional UV protection from the sun thus causing the paint to look deeper longer. Not waxing a car regularly will cause it to dull out quicker and will make it more likely to oxidize.

I would advise to get some help, and remove the remaining wax. Being 8 months pregnant is no joke

Take it to a spray off power wash, car wash. most of the time that will strip the wax right off then you should be able to wash and wax it right.
