tennisaurus: the point of what you call "hypothetical question" is to find out who is more important in your life and when a situation of this kind arises (heaven forbid), you'd know how to react. It's an exercise for an emergency. Anyway, I was not asking your opinion. This question is directed at intelligent people who care.

The children would be dead-scared, so I'll save them first. And then my wife, cause I know thats what she (my other half) would've wanted at that moment and would've done if she was in my place.

My children, because my spouse lived his life, let my children live theirs and I hope he do the same the other way around. I want my children saved.
For the ones who chossen spouse,
what if they left you or turned on you
so you got rid of your child only to save your partner when it was for nothing, I will take a risk on saving my children even if they turn on me in the near future, but a spouse, i know your saying you can have more kids, but what if they dont turn out that good and benefited like the one you killed.
I would hate to be a child from some of you, cause i would be dead cause you put your spouse before your children. Come on they are more vulnerable. Its like taking your last plate of food from you children when they are hungry and giving it to your spouse when they can help themselves way more. I have no respect for people who choose their partners over their kids im sorry, I love my children to much. (im not tryin to start stuff but its the truth) The reason to become a parent is to protect your kids

I would have to save my spouse, the one whom I married. Who would I have? day after day, once the product of our marriage had grown up and left home. It also seems wiser to save the spouse first. Once they are saved, you have the strength and wisdom which might help to save the children also.

children, I've lived and my wife has lived and enjoyed our life together. I would like my children to have the same chance. I've just looked at all the answers and know I haven't answered this right but this is how I feel.
